Lip Stains

What’s New in Lip Stain

A lip stain is a product used in cosmetics meant to replace lipstick or lip gloss.  This product has as a base either water or a gel. The product also usually contains alcohol which helps the product adhere to, or stay on the lips for an amazingly long amount of time.  Lip stain products vary widely in their formulas and application types.  If you’ve ever wished your lipstick would last longer, and almost be a permanent cosmetic, then you may want to try out a lip stain.  Lip stain will generally last for up to eight hours before reapplication is needed.  This product will last a long time and won’t have the heavy look of lipstick that’s been reapplied several times throughout the day or evening.

Applying lip stains is different than traditional lipstick or gloss.  Mistakes are not easily fixed and you may have to live with your errors for up to eight hours with this type of product.  Application types differ according to the brand you prefer, but some brands provide the product with choices of application types.  Lip stain can be applied with a brush, or some applicators look like the tip of a marker pen.  The product could look like a gel or a cream.  As was said earlier, mistakes may have to be lived with, but after you get the hang of applying the product, it really can be fast and easy.  Plus the bonus of not having to reapply color to your lips throughout the day will make you a believer in this type of product.

If you want the color to be true and to last as long as possible there are a few steps that should be taken before applying the color.  Your lips are skin and like skin, should be exfoliated from time to time to remove dead and dry skin.  Your lips should also be well hydrated.  Chapstick, lip balm, or even Vaseline should be used on your lips frequently.  Drinking plenty of water will also help to keep your lips, as well as your body, hydrated.  Lip stain itself may dry out your lips, so hydration is especially important after you start wearing it regularly.

It’s best to line your lips first, before applying the lip stain.  This will help you not make mistakes as you apply the semi permanent color.  Shake the product well before each use so that the color comes out evenly and the materials that make it adhere to your lips are spread throughout the color mixture.

For the color to look uniform and even, you need to work quickly when you apply the product.  It’s important to let it dry completely before you apply lip gloss to your lips or another coat of the lip stain.  If you don’t let it dry completely before applying another coat or gloss, or eating or drinking anything, the color may end up looking splotchy.  It the color is too much, blot some color off quickly after the application of the color.

There are many cosmetic manufacturers that make this product.  Covergirl Outlast Lipstain is one example.  For now, there are fewer color choices than traditional lipstick and most people find that the color on their lips is darker than expected.  Remember this when you are picking a color.

Lip stain is more expensive than traditional lipstick, so if you don’t want to make the investment but want to try it out, there is a simple solution.  Cherry or strawberry jello can be used to color your lips.  As every kid knows, if you lick your finger and stick it in jello, your finger will become stained.  To do this, wet a cotton swab and dip it into the jello mixture then apply to your lips.
